In a tightly contested match, the New York University men's tennis team fell 5-4 to North Carolina Wesleyan College in Salisbury, MD, on Friday.
Notching the lone victory for the Violets (1-4) in doubles competition were Calvin Chou and Craig Berger, who improved their doubles record to 3-2 with an 8-5 victory over Marcelo Prata and Davit Minasyan.
Chou, the University Athletic Association's reigning Athlete of the Week, claimed a singles victory as well, defeating Minasyan in the #3 singles match. NYU sophomores Jason Sacher and Alex Stoler also defeated their respective opponents in their singles matches. Sacher remains undefeated in his singles matches in dual competition and has a 6-2 overall singles record.
“It could have gone either way,” noted head coach Horace Choy. “It was another tough loss, but we will use these as learning experiences.”
With a quick turnaround, the Violets face Salisbury University at 1:00 pm on Saturday. This is a time change from the original schedule, as both the NYU men's and women's tennis teams will play outdoors.
