Mario Villa

Mario Villa enters his first season as an assistant coach with the NYU wrestling team. He will work primarily with the team’s lower weight classes.

A 2003 graduate of Hunter College with a degree in physical education teaching, Villa excelled both on the mat and in the classroom for the Hawks. Owner of a 3.55 grade point average, Villa was a four-time member of the New York All-State Team. He earned All-America honors with an eighth-place finish in the 133-lb. weight class at the 2002 NCAA Division III Championships, and also earned Scholar All-America honors in 2002.

Since graduating from Hunter, Villa has worked as a physical education teacher at Richmond Hill High School in Queens, NY, where he is involved in numerous team and individual sports, and teaches work ethics, nutrition and physical fitness.

While at Hunter, Villa served as a student assistant coach during the 2002-03 season, performing administrative duties and administering the team’s strength and conditioning program. Villa has also accumulated coaching experience by working in clinics sponsored by the Public Schools Athletic League (PSAL).

Villa is a native and resident of Mineola, NY.
