    Assistant Coach

Beau Bruno, who works primarily with the team’s upper weight classes, has completed one season as an assistant coach with the NYU wrestling team.

In 2005-06, Bruno helped lead NYU to a 16-2-2 record.  The 16 wins represented the most victories by NYU since the team recorded 19 victories during the 2000-01 season.  Under Bruno’s tutelage, sophomore Nick Coleman (184 pounds) earned All-New York State and All-University Athletic Association honors, while junior Ryan Cooley (174 pounds) also earned All-New York State status.  NYU won the 2006 UAA Championship with head coach Bruce Haberli and his assistants (Bruno, Andrew Butville, Mario Villa) earning UAA Coaching Staff of the Year accolades.

A 2004 graduate of Binghamton University with a degree in human development, Bruno was a two-year wrestler for the Bearcats.  He placed fifth at the New York State Championships at 157 lbs. as a junior and fourth at the Colonial Athletic Conference Championships at 149 lbs. as a senior.  In addition to his prowess on the mat, Bruno also earned Academic All-America honors following his senior campaign.

Prior to his time at Binghamton, Bruno attended Seton Hall University for two seasons and competed for their wrestling team in the 141-lb. and 149-lb. weight classes.  However, he transferred to Binghamton when the Pirates’ wrestling program was dropped.

A former New York State Championship silver medalist at Mineola High School on Long Island, Bruno was also a bronze medalist at the Empire States Game in 1998.  His wrestling experience also includes time as a coach at the Mineola H.S. Summer Camp.

A native and resident of Mineola, Bruno is currently pursuing a master’s degree in school counseling from Fordham University.
