Rita Welsh Costigan is in her first season as an assistant women’s volleyball coach at New York University. Among her many responsibilities, Welsh Costigan works with the middle hitters, while also serving the program’s needs for scouting and recruiting.
 
Welsh Costigan came to NYU after spending the 2010 and 2011 seasons as an assistant coach at Division I La Salle University.
 
A 2010 graduate of Manhattan College with a Bachelor of Science degree in secondary education, Welsh Costigan was a four-year starter for the Jaspers at middle blocker. She ended her career ranked second on the school’s all-time list in blocks with 426, was a three-time Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) All-Academic Team selection and served as a team captain as a senior.
 
While at Manhattan, Welsh Costigan played one season under current Violet Head Coach Jolie Ward and was a three-year teammate of current NYU Assistant Coach Alyssa Getzel. Welsh Costigan was also a member of Manhattan’s track & field team as a junior.
 
Welsh Costigan earned her Master of Education from La Salle in May 2012 with certificates in special education and autism.
 
A native of Collegeville, PA, Welsh Costigan resides in Morristown, NJ.
