Elvina Kung enters her second season as an assistant coach with the New York University women’s volleyball program.
In the 2006 season, Kung helped lead the squad to a record of 33-7, capture four in-season tournament titles, win its fourth straight New York State Women’s Collegiate Athletic Association (NYSWCAA) Championship, and advance to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
A 2005 graduate of Brown University with a degree in biology and a concentration in pre-med, Kung was a four-year member of the Bears’ volleyball team. A two-time All-Ivy League Second Team performer, she helped Brown win the 2001 Ivy League Regular Season Championship.
In 2004, Kung ranked second in NCAA Division I with 6.82 digs per game. Overall, she owns the Bears’ single-match (49 vs. Princeton in 2004) and single-season (648 in 2004) records for digs, and ranks second all-time in career digs (1,397). Off the court, she earned a Brown Athletics Post Graduate Scholarship, was named to the 2004 CoSIDA/ESPN the Magazine All-District I Academic Team, and was one of 324 student-athletes selected to participate in the NCAA Leadership Conference.
Kung’s coaching experience includes serving as a counselor and assistant coach at the Brown University Volleyball Camp and at the Rhode Island Volleyball Developmental Camp in the summer of 2004.
An accomplished violinist who played for the Brown University (2002) and Tufts University (2001, 2003) orchestras, Kung is a native and resident of Dix Hills, NY.
