A four-year player for New York University’s men’s volleyball team, Dominic Griffin has completed three highly successful seasons as assistant coach of the Violets’ women’s volleyball program.
During his three seasons, Griffin has helped head coach Ed Caesar guide the Violets to an overall 114-26 record, two consecutive appearances in the NCAA Division III Final Four, a trip to the NCAA Division III National Championship Final in 2003 and to the “Sweet Sixteen” of the 2002 NCAA Tournament. The Violets also recorded back-to-back 40 win seasons in 2003 and 2004. Griffin, along with Caesar and fellow assistant Mitch Kallick, were selected 2003 University Athletic Association Coaching Staff of the Year.
A 2002 NYU graduate with a degree in history, Griffin set NYU records for assists in a career (5,216) and in a season (1,661). A three-time First Team EIVA (Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association) Division III All-Star, Griffin earned All-EIVA Freshman Team honors in 1999. He was also selected EIVA Division III Championship Most Valuable Player in 2000 and in 2002.
During his playing career, Griffin helped lead the Violets to two EIVA Division III Championships. He served as a team captain when the Violets won the championship during his senior campaign. Griffin, who also excelled in the classroom, earned EIVA All-Academic Team honors and was an Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar Award recipient.
A native of Honolulu, Hawaii, Griffin currently resides in Manhattan.
