In her first season with the Violets, Getzel helped a young squad that returned only one starter reach the finals of the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Metro/Upstate Championship. Overall, NYU went 22-17 and 3-7 in the University Athletic Association (UAA) while capturing the title of its season-opening Labor Day Invitational. The trip to the ECAC’s extended the Violets’ streak of consecutive postseason appearances to 10.

A May 2009 graduate of Manhattan College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in secondary education and a minor in religious studies, Getzel came to NYU with several years of experience working with club teams and volleyball camps. She coached players at camps at the College of Mount Saint Vincent, the Atlantic Coast Athletic Club Fitness and Wellness Center, James River High School, and the Horace Mann School.

A four-year team member and setter at Manhattan, Getzel was a team captain as a junior and senior and was named to the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) All-Academic Team three times. As a junior, she was also the MAAC’s nomination for the NCAA Sportsmanship Award and was named to the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District Team.

A native of Richmond, VA, Getzel resides in the Bronx, where she teaches English at DeWitt Clinton High School. In 2010, she earned a Master of Arts degree at the Teachers College at Columbia University.
