A former international and collegiate swimming standout, Margie Pedder is in her fourth season as an assistant women’s swimming coach at New York University.

Since Pedder’s arrival in 2006-07, the Violets have gone 29-2 (.935) and have won two Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championships (2006 and 2007).

In 2008-09, NYU tied an all-time best with a second-place finish at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship while also setting 15 team records. Pedder was also part of NYU’s UAA Coaching Staff of the Year that helped produce UAA Women’s Swimmer of the Year, junior Patricia Beck.

Also last winter, freshman Molly Rippe (11th in 1,650 freestyle) became the Violets’ second All-American in as many years, joining sophomore Chelsea Pfohl (7th in 100 butterfly, 2008). Beck and Pfohl also qualified for the 2009 NCAA Championships.

Pedder swam for Great Britain in the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney and is the country’s former record-holder in the 200-meter butterfly. In addition, she was Great Britain national champion in the 200-meter butterfly from 1996-2000. She also won a U.S. National Championship in the same event in 2000.

A two-year member of the University of Southern California’s swim team, Pedder was a three-time NCAA All-American for the Trojans. She earned the distinction twice in 2003 (1,650-yard freestyle, 800-yard freestyle relay) and once in 2004 (1,650-yard freestyle). A 2004 graduate with a degree in communications, Pedder also received the Scholarly Athlete Award from USC’s David X. Marks Foundation.

Prior to attending USC, Pedder was a biomedical sciences major at the University of Portsmouth in Hampshire, England, from 2000-02.

In addition to her coaching responsibilities at NYU, Pedder also works for IMG, the sports and entertainment media company. She also serves as a swim coach for the Chelsea Piers Masters Swim Team.

A native of Portsmouth and a Manhattan resident, Pedder earned a master’s degree in sports business from NYU in 2008.
