Kate Sweeney begins her first season as an assistant swimming coach at New York University. Her responsibilities with the team will include planning and conducting workouts, as well as recruiting.
A 2005 graduate of Tufts University with a bachelor’s degree in biology, Sweeney was a four-year member of the Jumbos’ swim team. She served as quad-captain during her senior season, earned New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) All-Academic honors, and was awarded the team’s Ceci Grimm Award for dedication, dignity, selflessness, and warmth. Sweeney helped lead Tufts to an overall record of 25-8 during her four-year career, and currently ranks fourth on the team’s all-time 1,000-meter freestyle list.

Sweeney’s coaching resume includes participating at the NESCAC Women’s Coaching Symposium, as well as being a personal swimming instructor certified in CPR, First Aid and Lifeguarding.
In addition to her duties as a coach, Sweeney will also serve as the Assistant Natatorium Manager at the Palladium Athletic Facility.
Sweeney is a native of Falmouth, Massachusetts.
