Vanessa Scotto begins her second season as an assistant coach of the New York University women’s soccer team. Her responsibilities include recruiting, organizing community service, planning and conducting practices, and working with the team’s goalkeepers.

In 2005, Scotto organized the NYU Women's Soccer equipment drive for children displaced by Hurricane Katrina to help rebuild Gulf Coast communities. In joining with the US Soccer Foundation, NYU women's soccer held a three-week equipment donation drive culminating with a final day of collecting, shoe shining, folding and packing at Coles Sports Center in December 2005. The team was presented the President’s Service Award in Community Service for their efforts.

A 2003 graduate of the University of Pennsylvania with a bachelor’s degree in economics, Scotto was a four-year member of the Quakers’ soccer team. She served as a team captain during her sophomore and senior seasons, earned All-Ivy League Honorable Mention accolades, and was an All-District Academic honoree. Scotto helped lead Penn to its first-ever Ivy League title and to its second NCAA Tournament post-season berth in 2001.

During her career at Penn, Scotto established team records for lowest goals against average (0.56) and save percentage (0.898) in a season, as well as career shutouts (13). She earned the team’s Rookie of the Year Award in 2000 and its Spirit Award in 2003.

Scotto’s coaching resume includes serving as a goalkeeper coach at both the University of Pennsylvania Soccer Camp and at the No.1 Soccer Camp. She also served as head coach for the Pleasanton Rage youth club soccer team. She was also a member of the New York Magic, a team that competes in the United Soccer Leagues’ W-League.

In addition to her responsibilities at NYU, Scotto was recently admitted to Stanford Business School where she will be earning her MBA. A native of Pleasanton, California, Scotto currently commutes between Manhattan and Pleasanton.
