Carlos DeBrito

  • Title
    Assistant Women's Soccer Coach
The 2006-07 season will be Carlos De Brito’s third as an assistant coach with the New York University women’s soccer team. His many responsibilities with the team include recruiting, fitness training and working with the team’s goalkeepers.
De Brito has worked extensively with current goalkeeper Katie Barnes, who has enjoyed a great deal of success in her first two years with the team. Under De Brito’s guidance, Barnes has played in all 35 games over the past two seasons. After playing every minute (1642:13) of all 18 games and posting a 1.64 goal against average as a freshman, Barnes improved under De Brito’s tutelage to a 1.14 mark last season.
De Brito’s contributions helped lead the Violets to a 7-9-1 record in 2005, including a 2-1 upset win over then-#18 Carnegie Mellon University in a University Athletic Association contest on October 16.
A 2002 graduate of Marist College with a degree in criminal justice, De Brito was a four-year goalkeeper and captain for the Red Foxes’ soccer team. A three-time All-MAAC (Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference) selection, De Brito was also selected First Team All-New York Region in 2001. In 2000, he helped lead Marist to the MAAC Championship and to the NCAA Tournament.
"Carlos is a talented goalkeeper and an inspirational leader,” NYU head coach Amanda Vandervort said. “We are fortunate to have him in the program."
In high school, De Brito was an All-County and All-State selection at St. Benedict’s Prep in Newark, New Jersey. During his senior year, De Brito served as team captain as St. Benedict’s earned a national #1 ranking from USA Today.
De Brito’s career has continued on the professional level in the United Soccer League’s Pro Select League. He played for the league champion Long Island Rough Riders in 2003, and currently plays for the New Jersey Stallions.
A certified member of the National Endurance and Sports Trainers Association (NESTA), De Brito designs workouts, training sessions and diet plans as a personal trainer for the New York Sports Club. He has also accumulated coaching experience in local soccer camps and at the Premier Soccer School in Kinnelon, NJ.
A native of Kearny, NJ, De Brito currently resides in Union, NJ.
