Amanda Vandervort has completed one season as head coach of the New York University women’s soccer team. The Violets produced six wins during her initial campaign, including a three-game winning streak.
Several of Vandervort’s players received individual honors during the 2003 season. Senior Lauren Henkel was named First Team All-University Athletic Association, while senior Jennifer Farkas and freshman Mallory Tomaro were named Second Team All-UAA. Sophomore Anny Colvin and freshman Jennifer Tavares each received Honorable Mention All-UAA accolades. Vandervort’s players also excelled in the classroom, as 12 Violets garnered UAA Fall Sport All-Academic honors.
Vandervort is a 2001 graduate of the University of Wyoming with a bachelor of science degree in communications. She added a master of science degree in educational technology from The College of New Jersey in 2002.
While at NCAA Division I Wyoming, Vandervort was a four-year scholarship goalkeeper for the Cowgirls’ soccer team. She established team records for most saves (393), and for most minutes played in a career and in a season (4,695 and 1,680, respectively). Vandervort led the Mountain West Conference in saves per game in 1999 and 2000, was selected team captain as a junior and senior, was voted the team’s Most Inspirational Player in 1998, and earned the 2001 Wyoming Soccer Athlete of the Year Award.
During the 2001 and 2002 seasons, Vandervort served as the Graduate Assistant and Goalkeeper Coach for The College of New Jersey’s women’s soccer team. The Lions were 2001 NCAA Division III Mid-Atlantic Regional Champions and 2002 NCAA Division III Mid-Atlantic Regional Finalists. In addition, Vandervort trained NCAA National Player of the Year and two-time All-American goalkeeper Victoria Nusse.
As a Region 1 ODP Staff Coach, Vandervort participates in regional coaching exhibitions, camps and workshops, and trains teams and players throughout the northeast. She also acts as the Director of Media Relations for the National Soccer Coaches’ Association of America Women’s Committee.
Vandervort recently joined the Downtown United Soccer Club as the head coach of a U-13 girl’s team in Manhattan. She has also developed a Soccer-After-School Volunteer Program for NYU’s men’s and women’s soccer players and coaches.
A native of Tucson, Arizona, Vandervort currently lives in Manhattan.
