Jerry DeMaio

  • Title
    Assistant Coach
The 2002-03 season marked Jerry DeMaio’s fourth year of his second stay as an assistant coach with the New York University women’s basketball team. DeMaio returned after a two-year hiatus as the Director of Basketball Operations with the U.S. Hoops basketball training center in New Jersey.

Last season, DeMaio helped lead the Violets to their 20th-consecutive winning season and their second straight ECAC Division III Metro Championship.

During his 1996-98 tenure with the Violets, DeMaio was part of the Violets’ 1997 NCAA National Championship team. He earned national, as well as University Athletic Association Coaching Staff of the Year honors for his efforts. He was responsible for assisting with floor coaching and game plan preparation.

DeMaio’s duties with NYU now include scouting coordination, player development, office operations, advertisement, and attendance promotions. He also assists the department of athletics with varsity special event coordination.

“Jerry is simply doing a terrific job in contributing to many aspects of the program’s continued growth and success,” head coach Janice Quinn said. “His energy and enthusiasm, together with his experience and efforts in the women’s game, make him a wonderful asset. His loyalty to NYU and this program are greatly appreciated.”

Prior to his initial arrival at NYU, DeMaio coached the highly-successful New Jersey Demons 15-and-under girl’s team in Amateur Athletic Union competition. In 1996, he led the Demons to the U.S. Junior Nationals Final Four.

“I appreciate the opportunity that NYU has given me to work with and be mentored by Janice Quinn, certainly one of the top coaches, male or female, in the nation,” DeMaio said. “I also thank my parents for the support and encouragement they’ve always given me.”

DeMaio, who attended NYU as an undergraduate, is a native of Woodbridge, NJ, and currently resides in Sparta, NJ.
