Ashley Reed is in her second season as an assistant coach with the women’s basketball team. Her primary responsibilities include scouting, guard development and game scheduling. Reed also assists in recruiting efforts and with the coordination of the team’s community service opportunities.
In 2013-14, her first year with the team, Reed helped lead NYU back to the national stage as the Violets produced a 20-win season (20-6), a 9-5 (second place) mark in the extremely competitive University Athletic Association (UAA) and a trip to the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
It was the first NCAA bid for NYU since 2009, when the squad reached the Sweet 16. The squad recorded its best overall record and UAA finish since that season, as well.
The Violets got off to a 13-0 start before suffering their first loss on the road at the hands of then #2 Washington University. Just five days later, the squad recorded a signature win over then #7 Emory University at home, and spent three weeks in the D3hoops.com top 25, peaking at #20.
The 2013-14 campaign also saw a number of Violets collect individual accolades. A year after becoming the first Violet ever to be named UAA Rookie of the Year, Megan Dawe was named First Team All-UAA as a sophomore. Loftus also helped produce another freshman phenom in guard Kaitlyn Read, who joined Dawe on the UAA First Team. Dawe and Read were also both named to the All-Met Division III Second Team. Read also received Second Team All-East Region and East Region Rookie of the Year honors from D3hoops.com, while also being named to the Women’s DIII News All-Freshman Team.
Reed joined NYU after three years as an assistant coach with the University of Mary Washington, where she assisted with all aspects of the program, including recruiting, game and practice planning, film breakdown and exchange. During her tenure, the Eagles compiled an overall record of 70-14, won a Capital Athletic Conference ( CAC ) Championship and made an Elite Eight appearance in the NCAA Tournament in 2011-12.
A 2010 Mary Washington graduate with a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration, Reed was a four-year player and two-year captain for the Eagles. She helped lead her teams to a 104-18 overall record, including NCAA Tournament appearances in each of her four seasons and three CAC Championships. Reed’s freshman season culminated with a trip to the Final Four, followed by a sophomore season which produced a trip to the Sweet 16.
Reed also earned a Master's of Business Administration degree from Mary Washington in 2012.
A native of Fairfax Station, VA, Reed resides in New York City.
