Leeor Alon joined the New York University men’s volleyball program as an assistant coach during the 2009 season.

In Alon’s first season on staff, the Violets went 10-20 and ended the season ranked #6 in the Bison/AVCA Division III Poll.

A 2005 NYU graduate who majored in philosophy and minored in math, business and pre-med, Alon was a two-year member of the Violets’ volleyball team. He served as a co-captain during his senior campaign and set team rally-scoring records for assists (1,167) and service aces per game (0.41) as a junior.

A two-time Division III AVCA Second Team All-American and two-time EIVA Second Team All-Star, Alon completed his two-year career as the program’s all time rally-scoring leader in service aces per game (0.38). He finished second all-time in assists per game (12.26) and third in total assists (2.048).

A native of Holon, Israel, Alon played for Israel’s junior and under-21 national teams.

A Manhattan resident, Alon transferred to NYU after two years at Queens College, where he played volleyball, was a two-time All-American and ranked among the NCAA Division II leaders in assists per game.

After graduating from NYU, Alon earned a master’s degree in biomedical engineering from Yale University in 2007. While in New Haven, he served as an assistant coach of the Bulldogs’ women’s volleyball team.

In addition to his responsibilities with the volleyball team, Alon is also currently pursuing his PhD in biomedical sciences at the NYU’s Sackler School of Medicine.
