David Lado is in his second season as an assistant coach with the New York University men’s and women’s track & field teams. His primary responsibility is working with the Violets’ sprinters, hurdlers and jumpers.
Lado’s first season with the Violets was marked with success for sprinters on both the men’s and women’s sides.
Under Lado’s guidance, freshman sprinter Matthew Powers burst onto the scene. He broke the NYU 200m indoor record on three occasions, eventually setting the mark at 21.83. He also captured the University Athletic Association (UAA) Indoor title and the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Indoor title in the event en route to being named NYU’s Male Freshman Athlete of the Year.
Lado also helped Daniel McKinney to an impressive senior season. The senior captured his third consecutive 400m crown at the UAA Indoor Championships and his fourth consecutive 400m win at the UAA Outdoor Championships. He qualified for the NCAA Championships in both the 200m and the 400m, finishing fourth in the 400m and earning All-America honors. For his outstanding performance throughout the season, McKinney was named NYU’s Senior Athlete of the Year.
The sprinters on the women’s side also enjoyed a great deal of success under Lado’s watch. In his first year with the squad, six team sprinting records were rewritten. During the indoor season, freshman Kristina Harris set the school mark for the 60m (7.87) and sophomore Caroline Spring set the 500m record (1:18.58). Harris and Spring also combined with freshmen Lydia Guo and Drew Washington to set the team’s 4x200m relay record (1:44.90), while Guo, Spring, Washington, and sophomore Alyssa Binczyk established the Violets’ 4x400m mark (3:57.23).
During the outdoor season, Harris, Guo, Spring, and Washington combined again for an outdoor 400m record time of 1:45.50, while Harris, Washington, Spring, and Binczyk formed a sprint medley relay quarter that set the Violet standard with a time of 4:13.15.
Lado came to NYU with several years of high school coaching experience in New Jersey. He coached at the Academy of the Holy Angels in Demarest, NJ, and Indian Hills High School in Oakland, NJ.
Lado is also the Director of High Intensity Track & Field.
A 2007 graduate of NCAA Division I Rider University with a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration, Lado was a four-year member of the track & field team. He was a three-time Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) champion in the 400-meter hurdles, as well as an IC4A qualifier in multiple events. Lado was also a member of the school-record-setting 4x800-meter relay team as a freshman.
Lado is a native and resident of Ridgefield, NJ.
