Bryant Perkins is in his second year as an assistant coach for both the men’s and women’s track & field teams. His primary responsibilities are to oversee the sprinters and hurdlers.

In Perkins’ first year on staff, sophomore sprinter Daniel McKinney earned All-America honors at the NCAA Indoor Championships as a member of the Violets’ seventh-place distance medley relay team (he ran the 400-meter leg). McKinney also broke the NYU record in the 200 meters (22.34) with his winning performance at the NYU Team Challenge. He went on to win the 400-meter title at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Indoor Championships, then continued his dominance in the 200 and 400 meters (meet-record 47.85) at the UAA Outdoor Championships, winning both races and earning UAA Most Outstanding Performer honors.

On the women’s side, sophomore Marion Burns ran a school-record time in the 500 meters (1:20.28), also at the NYU Team Challenge, and posted the fastest indoor 400-meter time (59.03) in the UAA.

A 2005 graduate of Central State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in mass communications/print journalism, Perkins holds a USA Track & Field certification as a track & field coach, as well as a CrossFit certification as a personal trainer.

“Bryant has experience in sprints and 400 meter events,” said NYU head coach Nick McDonough. “He also has a great background in sports conditioning.”

In 2007, Bryant served as the interim head sprint/hurdles and strength/conditioning coach at DeSales University during the indoor and outdoor track & field seasons. Under his tenure, three school hurdle records were broken.

From 2007-09, Perkins worked as a personal trainer at Gold’s Gym. He also continues to work at the Equinox Fitness Club. In 2009, Bryant started his own company, City Fitness Management, Inc., which specializes in strength and conditioning coaching, as well as in marathon, track & field and CrossFit training.

A native of Newark, DE, Perkins resides in Manhattan.
