    Assistant Men's Swimming Coach
Jim Henning has completed two seasons as an assistant swimming coach with the Violets. He works primarily with the team’s sprinters and backstrokers.
Henning has served as head coach of NYU’s men’s and women’s water polo club teams and as an Assistant Aquatics Supervisor in the Coles Sports Center Natatorium. Last year, he led the women’s team to an undefeated regular-season, the New York Division Championship of the Collegiate Water Polo Association, and to a bid in the National Championships. Henning has also served as an assistant coach for the Red Tide of New York City Master’s Swim Team, which he helped lead to a New York State Championship in 1999. He also works as an ocean lifeguard during the summer in Rockaway Beach, NY.
A 1998 graduate of Iona College with a degree in mass communications, Henning was a two-sport star for the Division I Gaels. He is a former Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Champion in the 200-yard backstroke, and was an All-MAAC selection each of his four years. The possessor of the third-fastest 200 backstroke time in the history of the school, Henning is an eight-time member of the “Iona College Golden Dozen,” which includes the 12-fastest times in each swimming event. A former team captain and most valuable swimmer, Henning was also a four-year starter for Iona’s nationally-ranked water polo team. He led the team in man advantage goals and penalties drawn as a senior, and also served as a team captain.
A native of Rockaway Beach, Henning currently resides in Manhattan.
