Jay Donovan is in his first year as head coach of the New York University men’s golf team.
A 1997 graduate of the University of Connecticut with a bachelor’s degree in general studies, Donovan is also a graduate of the Fairfield University Center for Financial Studies. He takes over a program that finished third at the UAA Championship last season and earned its second consecutive bid to the NCAA Division III Men’s Golf Championship.
“I hope to add to the values of academic excellence and student development that are at the core of NYU’s athletic tradition,” Donovan said. “I believe that golf as a game invites character development to an extent that is almost unique among sports and furthers NYU’s commitment to success both in athletics and in the classroom.”
An avid golfer, Donovan has competed as a USGA Contestant at the U.S Amateur (1996) and U.S. Mid-Amateur (2003). In 2004, he established an amateur course record at Hickory Ridge Country Club in Amhurst, Massachusetts, with a score of 67. A former PGA tour caddy, Donovan worked at such prestigious tournaments as the Buick Classic, Greater Hartford Open, and B.C Open.
Prior to taking over the head coaching position at New York University, Donovan worked as an account manager for Biomerieux, Inc., in Durham, North Carolina.
A native of Hartford, Connecticut, Donovan currently resides in Larchmont, NY.
