Staunton Peck is in his second season as an assistant coach with the New York University men’s basketball team. He aids with the Violets’ recruiting, scouting and on-court coaching.

In his first year on the NYU staff, Peck helped the team record one of the most successful seasons in school history, as the squad earned a bid to the NCAA Division III Championship for the first time since 1997-98. The Violets went 21-6 overall and reached the second round of the NCAA’s. They hosted their first-round contest at home at the Coles Sports Center, defeating Misericordia University 84-65 for their first NCAA win in 15 seasons.

In the ultra-competitive University Athletic Association (UAA), Peck helped the team go 9-5 to finish in second place – its best since the ’96-97 campaign. He and the rest of the NYU staff went on to earn UAA Coaching Staff of the Year honors.

Peck came to NYU from Vassar College, where he spent two seasons as an assistant coach and served as the Brewers’ Recruiting and Video Coordinator. He also served as the College’s Assistant Facilities Director.

Prior to his arrival at Vassar, Peck was the Assistant Coach and Basketball Operations Coordinator at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse for the 2007-08 and 2008-09 seasons. In 2006-07, he coached with the Rising Stars AAU basketball program in Deerfield, IL, and at New Trier High School in Winnetka, IL.

A 2006 graduate of Hamilton College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science, Peck was a three-year starter and two-year captain for the Continentals. As a senior, he received Honorable Mention All-Liberty League accolades after helping lead Hamilton to the Liberty League Championship and to the second round of the NCAA Division III Championship.

In 2009, Peck earned his Master of Science degree in sport administration from Wisconsin-La Crosse. In September of that year, he received the Mannie Jackson Human Spirit Award Scholarship, which is given annually to one male and one female in pursuit of a graduate degree in the field of sport management. Peck was recognized at the 2009 Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame induction ceremony for receiving the scholarship.

A native of Chicago, IL, Peck resides in Hoboken, NJ.
