Ultimate Frisbee is one of the fastest growing sports in the country and has recently been recognized as an official sport by the International Olympic Committee. Ultimate is a fast-paced, non-contact field sport for both men and women that demands speed and agility. The 7-vs-7 game combines the elements of soccer, football and basketball. Players cannot run when they possess the disc and must pass among teammates toward the goal of receiving the disc in their opponent's end zone for a score. Defense tries to block, intercept or force the disc out of bounds for a turnover. Players make their own calls and work out fouls, travels and other violations in a respectful manner with opponents. All players are guided by a standard of fairness and competitiveness known as 'Spirit of the Game.
The NYU Women's and Non-Binary Ultimate Frisbee team offer a fun and competitive place to play ultimate with an emphasis on individual growth and creating a tight community between the two teams. Our program at NYU offers individuals with little or no experience an opportunity to learn the rules and skills involved in ultimate while also expanding the skills of those who have played before. The teams are looking for athletic people with an open mind and willingness to learn and be coached. Although most newcomers have never played ultimate before, both teams have gone on to compete at sectionals and regionals every year.
Additional workouts are held to prevent injury and build the fitness needed for the sport.
