The sport you are interested in may not always be offered, but you can start a Club Sport!

The timeline for the club application process is as follows:
  • April 1st - September 30th: Interested students may submit a Start a Club Application
  • October 1st - 31st: Campus Recreation confirms which applications will be allowed to proceed with a Formal Proposal.
  • November 1st - January 31st: The Formal Proposal must be submitted and presented to Campus Recreation before the end of January of the following year.
Please see the following process, in detail, for becoming a club sport:
  1. Read and review the Club Sports Manual.
  2. Complete and submit the Start a Club Application to the Campus Recreation office.
  3. If approved, meet with the club sports administrators to discuss the expectations and prepare a Formal Proposal.
  4. Submit a Formal Proposal, which should include:
    • A description of the void that this club will fill on campus.
    • An explanation of how this club meets the values, mission, and overall purpose of NYU Campus Recreation.
    • The club's inaugural constitution (see current teams for examples)
    • An outline of practice space and needs, including potential options.
    • Required equipment.
    • A detailed breakdown of the total expected financial cost.
    • A clear plan of the club's fundraising goals and expectations to meet operation cost
    • The club's inaugural student leadership.
    • A petition form demonstrating the interest of at least 100 students.
    • Information on the national governing body.
  5. The club will then present to Campus Recreation
  6. Campus Recreation would then make a formal recommendation to the Director of Athletics and Recreation. The Director of Athletics and Recreation has final approval.
  7. If approved, Campus Recreation will provide additional information relevant to finalizing the proposed club as a newly recognized club sport. The club will have a one-year probationary period to meet standard club guidelines for full membership and demonstrate stability in club leadership, membership, student interest, and finances. After the club completes the probationary period, it will receive full funding as approved through the process.
*Club Sports applications are accepted based on the ability of the Department of Athletics, Intramurals, and Recreation to reasonably support the proposal.
