Student Employment and Internship Opportunities
NYU Athletics is one of the largest employers on campus, with over 300 student employees in functional areas such as facility operations, varsity game day and special event management, athletic training, sports information, intramural sports, and general administrative support. Our student employees help us foster a safe, fun, and recreational atmosphere for the NYU community, while gaining valuable professional skills, lifelong learning opportunities, and lasting friendships. Both former and current employees have expressed how their work has improved their communication skills, fostered new friendships, and allowed them to develop skills and the confidence to resolve challenging situations in the workplace.

Areas of Employment:
Below are brief descriptions of the area of employment and roles that NYU Athletics employs throughout the year.
CAMPUS RECREATION
- Aquatics Instructor: Instructs and guides participants in aquatics classes or pool programming.
- Esports Event Assistants: On-site officials and event personnel who manages esports competitions, game sites, and social events.
- Graphic Designer & Content Creator: Assists with media development, capturing and editing content, and promoting Campus Recreation programming digitally.
- Group Fitness Instructor: Instructs and guides participants in group fitness drop-in classes.
- Intramurals Sports and Events Official: On-site officials and event personnel who manages intramural competitions, game sites, and events.
- Operations Assistant: Assists and supports main administrative office with day-to-day operations of programs coordination.
- Personal Trainer: Provides assessments and develops safe exercise programs for interested clients.
- Sports Program Assistant: Lead on-site supervisor for events, intramurals, and/or esports events/competitions.
FACILITIES AND EVENTS OPERATIONS
- Athletic Training Assistant: Assist in the daily maintenance of the athletic training room, prepare supplies and materials for varsity practices and competition days, and communicate with student athletes and patrons in the athletic training room.
- Equipment Room Attendant: Assists with the day-to-day operations of the Equipment Room, including laundry, gear inventory, and equipment issuance.
- Gameday Event Assistants: Assists with set-up/take-down and operation of varsity athletic competitions and special events.
- Lifeguards: Maintains surveillance of patrons in the aquatics area and ensures their safety by minimizing or eliminating hazardous situations. Provides emergency care and treatment as required until the arrival of emergency medical services. American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification Required.
- Head Lifeguards/Lifeguard Instructors: Assists aquatics managers in supervising lifeguards, trains student employees, and acts as lifeguard as needed.
- Operations Attendant: Provides supervision of fitness areas and welcome desks, including policy enforcement, cleaning, and patron assistance.
- Rock Wall Attendant: Ensures all participants are climbing, belaying, and bouldering at the Palladium Athletic Facility Rock Wall in a safe manner while also teaching general climbing, belaying, and bouldering techniques during open climbing hours and special events.
- Varsity Performance Center (VPC) Assistant: Assists in the daily operation of the Varsity Performance Center, including supporting structured and open lifting practices.
STRATEGIC COMMUNICATIONS
- Athletic Communications Assistant: Involved in a myriad of communication responsibilities including writing articles, statistical operations, gameday event tasks, record-keeping, updating of the website, graphic design, and general communication with key stakeholders. Apply here.
- Graphic Designer: Creates compelling designs for both print and digital platforms using Adobe Photoshop and Creative Suite.
- Photographer: Shoots and edits photos for games and events for promotional and historical purposes.
- New Media Assistant: Curates, creates, and publishes online content — ranging from crafting a tweet to snapping photos and videos, and capturing the story of our teams and athletes.
