The New York University men's and women's golf teams are ready to return to the course as the Violets open their 2026-27 seasons this weekend at the St. Lawrence University Invitational.
Both teams will compete at the Oliver D. Appleton Golf Course in Canton, NY, beginning with the opening round on Saturday, September 5, before concluding play on Sunday.
The new campaign follows a 2025-26 season filled with team titles, individual accomplishments and national recognition for the Violets, with many of the golfers behind those performances returning this fall.
NYU's women's team enters the season with an especially accomplished returning group after finishing third at the 2026 NCAA Division III Championship. The Violets capped the season with a three-under-par final round at the national championship and had previously won all four of their spring tournaments.
That run included victories at the Jekyll Island Invitational, Stith Invitational and Jack Leaman Invitational before NYU captured the Liberty League Championship.
Sophomore
Jiayi Fu returns after making an immediate impact during her first collegiate season. She finished sixth individually at the NCAA Championship, captured the Liberty League individual title, was named Liberty League Player of the Year, and earned Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) First Team All-America honors.
Fu is not the only returning All-American, as junior
Naomi Tan also earned First Team honors, while junior
Sonia Hao and sophomore
Inha Jun received Second Team recognition.
Jun added Liberty League Rookie of the Year honors during her debut season, while Tan, Hao, Jun and Fu all earned All-Region recognition.
The Violets also enter the fall as defending University Athletic Association (UAA) champions, having gone unbeaten in match play against three of the nation's top-ranked programs, defeating then-No. 1 Emory University and No. 3 Washington University in St. Louis before tying No. 2 Carnegie Mellon University.
The men's team also brings momentum into the new season following a strong 2025-26 campaign.
NYU captured the title at the 17-team Dr. Tim Brown Invitational in April and went on to finish second at the Liberty League Championship. Several of the golfers who helped lead those performances are back in Violet this season.
Senior
Jomyuth Luangtana-anan returns as one of the team's most experienced golfers after earning First Team All-Liberty League and PING All-Region II recognition last season. He tied for fourth individually at the Liberty League Championship and added top-10 finishes at both the Skidmore Fall Invitational and RPI Collegiate Invitational.
Sophomore
Tanmay Chandra is also back after a standout rookie campaign. He captured the individual title at the Indian Mound Invitational, placed fourth at the Dr. Tim Brown Invitational and fifth at the FSC Bethpage Black Invitational. His 72.27 scoring average established a new NYU single-season program record and earned him Second Team All-Liberty League honors.
Fellow sophomore
Qi (Steven) Liu made his presence felt during his first year as well, finishing tied for second at the RPI Collegiate Invitational and for seventh at the Dr. Tim Brown Invitational on his way to All-Liberty League Honorable Mention and PING All-Region II honors.
Together, the returning group will look to build on a season in which they set a program record for the lowest one-day score, firing an eight-under-par 280 during the Liberty League Championship.
After this weekend's opening tournament, attention will quickly turn toward the UAA Championship on September 14-15 at Elks Run Golf Course in Batavia, OH. NYU will serve as host as the women's team looks to defend its conference crown and the men's team faces another strong field in match play.
The St. Lawrence Invitational marks the first opportunity for both teams to build on last season's success.
The clubs are packed, the Violets are back on the course, and a new season is ready to tee off.
