A pair of New York University freshmen cross country runners have been selected as University Athletic Association (UAA) Athetes of the Week.
Georgia Bass of NYU's women's cross country team and
Wyatt Lendon of the men's team each received the honor after outstanding performances on Saturday at the Ron Stonitsch Invitational, hosted by Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, NY.
Bass was NYU's top finisher as the
top-ranked Violets won their season-opening competition. She traversed the 5K course in 18:40.7, finishing ahead of all but one runner in the 65-person competition. Her performance helped lead NYU into first place with 20 points, well ahead of second place Vassar (41) in the six-team competition.
Lendon was the men's team's top runner as the
#3-ranked Violets also won their season-opening event. He traveled the 6K course in a time of 19:15.8, placing second overall in the 83-person field. Lendon's performance helped lead NYU to a first-place finish with 31 points, ahead of second place Vassar (44) in the seven-team competition.
Both squads will return to action when they compete at the Paul Short Run, hosted by Lehigh University in Bethlehem, PA, on Friday, October 2.
