The New York University baseball team (7-11, 2-6) was defeated 11-1 by Washington University in St. Louis (21-6, 5-3) on Sunday, April 5, in St. Louis, MO, to close out the regular season series.
The Bears came into the day having won two of the first three games of the series. They began game four by scoring three runs in the first inning.
NYU, trailing 3-0, got a lead-off triple by
Aidan Howladar in the top of the third. The Violets then managed to get on the board with a wild pitch in the next at-bat.
Tyler Tedeschi came in to take over on the mound in the bottom of the first and had a solid performance on the day. WashU went scoreless and only recorded three hits with Tedeschi on the bump from innings one through four.
The Bears got its first runs off of Tedeschi on an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth and went on to score two runs in the inning to take a 5-1 advantage.
The Bears' bats stayed hot, as they tacked on a total of six runs in the next two innings to enforce the run-rule and close the series.
Notable Stats:
- CJ Franchini, NYU's batting average leader, extended his hit streak to seven games
- NYU came into the game second in the UAA in batting average (.314) only trailing WashU (.318)
