Members of the New York University men's and women's track and field teams competed at the Metropolitan Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Friday, Apr. 3. The meet was held at Icahn Stadium on Randall's Island in New York City.
The Violets placed 10th in the men's team results out of 12 teams with 41 points and 11th in the women's standings out of 13 teams with 17 points.
NYU's top performers were in the field events, scoring three top-five finishes.
Emma Grunin took fourth place in the women's javelin throw with a 36.01m throw.
Daniel Lee took fourth in the men's discus throw with a 41.55m best mark.
Nishad Sankar finished fifth in the men's triple jump competition with a 13.88m jump.
Seven other field athletes finished in the top ten of their events.
Areyanna McCarthy placed sixth in the women's triple jump with a 10.81m mark.
Ujjayan Behera took eighth in the men's discus throw (31.88m) and men's hammer throw (35.97m).
Drew Boyce finished eighth in the men's long jump (6.23m) and ninth in the men's triple jump (13.06m). Lee finished tenth in the men's shot put (10.83m) and
Kai Aravena also finished tenth in the men's javelin throw with a 34.81m best.
On the track,
Shaurya Srivastava (15:38.84) led the way for the Violets with a fifth-place finish in the men's 5000m run.
Trey Davidson (15:50.09) placed ninth and
Brandon Meiner (15:52.68) placed tenth.
Rachel Newman (19:11.59) took seventh in the women's race.
Beverly Okyere clocked in at 59.91 in the women's 400-meter dash, taking sixth in the final.
In the 100-meter dash finals,
Tyler Burch (11.00) took seventh for the men and
Adrianna Kosmont (12.68) took ninth for the women.
William Cornick finished seventh for the men in the 1500-meter run, clocking in at 4:04.54.
Both 4x100m relay teams placed sixth to round out the day. The men's team (
Tyler Burch,
James Thompson,
Emmanuel Brito,
Flynt Whitworth) finished in 43.10. The women's team (Kosmont, Okyere, McCarthy,
Alexa McMillian) clocked in at 51.14.
A selection of team members will compete at Princeton University on Saturday, Apr. 4, for the Sam Howell Invitational and Distance Classic.
