New York University (11-19, 5-14) continued its four-game series against the University of Chicago (22-13, 14-5) in a doubleheader on Saturday, April 25, in Chicago, Illinois. The two teams kicked off the series on Friday with the Violets dropping the UAA contest 8-1.
In game one of the doubleheader on Saturday, NYU had a late comeback to tie the game but came up short to go down 0-2 in the series. In game two Chicago's 10-run inning led to the sweep. .
Game 1: 8-4 University of Chicago
Conversely to the first game of the series, Chicago took the game's first lead, scoring a run in the bottom of first.
NYU held Chicago, one of the league's best offenses, to just seven hits through five innings.
Niket Barot was the man on the mound responsible for Chicago's slow offensive start.
For the second straight game Chicago's bullpen was dominant, holding the Violets scoreless through five.
Trailing 3-0 in the top of the sixth the Violets found themselves in a bases loaded situation.
Dominic Holton's sacrifice-fly RBI gave the Violets a spark, and
Aidan Howladar followed with a two-run double to even the score.
Chicago broke the tie in the seventh, scoring four runs, and later extended their lead in the eighth by adding another run.
NYU once again had bases loaded, this time in the ninth with one more chance to comeback down five.
Kosta Mocklis was hit by a pitch to advance all runners and cut the lead to just 8-4, but that'd be the end of the scoring for the Violets.
Game 2: 13-10 University of Chicago
Both teams struggled to get anything going offensively to start the game. There were only a combined three hits through the first four innings.
Chicago opened the scoring in the fourth and exploded for 10 runs in the fifth to hold an 11-0 lead.
With the game almost out of reach, the Violets put together another comeback, starting with a
Max Oliveira RBI double in the sixth.
Harrison Blueweiss hit a two-run homer in the top of the seventh to cut the deficit to nine and escape the run-rule. NYU added seven unearned runs later in the inning to make the score 12-10.
Chicago finished the game's scoring in the bottom of the seventh to clinch the series win.
