Baseball Opens Home Season

Violets Fall to Emory

The New York University baseball team played Emory University in its first home game of the season on Friday, March 27.

Hosting at the Naimoli Family Baseball Complex in Teaneck, NJ, the Violets dropped their University Athletic Association (UAA) opener 9-1.

The game was called after eight innings due to darkness.

Emory got on the board right away, scoring two runs in the top of the first inning. Both runs were plated on fielder's choice ground outs.

The Eagles added two more runs in the top of the third on a pair of bases-loaded walks.

The Violets got their first hit and run in the bottom of the frame as Harrison Blueweiss' double scored Aidan Howladar who reached on a hit-by-pitch.

Emory added single runs in the fifth inning on another fielder's choice and in the sixth on an infield error, before tacking on two more in the seventh.

The Eagles finished their scoring on Dalton Needle's home run in the eighth.

Clayton Green was solid in relief for the Violets, taking over with two outs in the third inning and pitching into the seventh. In 3.2 innings, he only allowed three hits and one earned run while striking out three batters.

Josh Zuckerman was masterful on the mound for Eagles, going all eight innings and allowing only three hits while striking out eight.

The Violets return to the diamond tomorrow when they host Emory for another two University Athletic Association (UAA) games. The doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 12:00pm back at the Naimoli Family Baseball Complex in Teaneck, NJ.
