The New York University women's tennis team fell 4–1 to Babson College on Saturday, February 28, in Babson Park, MA.
In doubles play, the Violets were swept as Babson claimed all three courts to secure the doubles point and an early 1–0 lead.
The No. 1 duo of Visnja Gusavac and Sophia Yang and the No. 2 pair of Emma Kast and Victoria Wang each dropped 6–4 decisions, while Norah Staunton and Siona Vallabhaneni fell 6–1 at No. 3.
In singles, the Violets earned their lone point thanks to a standout performance from Yang at No. 3.
After dropping the first set 1–6, Yang bounced back to take the second 6–1 and then battled through a tense 10–7 final set to secure the win.
The rest of the lineup put up a strong fight as well, with several sets closely contested before time constraints ended play.
"I thought they played well against another strong opponent," said Head Coach Horace Choy. "We had some chances in doubles, and the singles were competitive all the way through. While we lost the matches this weekend, we competed well against two top-ten teams. It was a good learning experience for a young team."
The Violets return to action on Saturday, March 7, when they host Wellesley College in the Bronx, NY.
