Fencers Host Quad Meet on Senior Day

Violets Face Columbia, Vassar and Sacred Heart at the Paulson Center

The New York University men's and women's fencing teams hosted Columbia University, Vassar College and Sacred Heart University at the John A. Paulson Center on Wednesday, February 25.

Prior to the action, NYU celebrated Senior Day by honoring nine of its student-athletes participating in their final home competition: Tyler Cho, Farr Dickson, Sophia Dondisch, William Lehr, Emily Luo, Claudia Meyer, Jerry Pan, Zara Sinha, and Matthew Zhou.

"The seniors had a huge impact today. The team came out with a lot of energy," said Head Coach Ben Bratton. "Overall, all of the seniors did great and I am really proud of them."

NYU opened the competition by facing Columbia.

The men's team lost 16-11, despite winning the foil competition 5-4. Dickson won all three of his foil bouts, while Anup Banerjee accounted for the other two.

The women lost 24-3, with Katherine Chen and Lily Papadakis winning their epee bouts, while Dondisch posted a saber victory.

In their second match of the night, the Violets faced Vassar.

The men's team won 21–6, while the women's team earned a 23–4 victory.

The men swept the foil bouts and dropped just one match in sabre. Anders Yu, Farr Dickson, and Banerjee all went undefeated vs. the Brewers.

The women set the tone against Vassar, sweeping the foil bouts and putting together a strong showing in sabre while also picking up multiple wins in épée. Dondisch and Rosemarie Benciu led the way in sabre, while Azniv Basralian and Nina Prihodko anchored the épée group. The foil squad jumped out early and helped NYU stay in control throughout the matchup.

In the final action of the night, NYU faced Sacred Heart. The Violets picked up a 22–5 win on the men's side and a 23–4 victory in the women's competition.

The men swept both the épée and foil bouts and added key wins in sabre to take the match. Dickson was dominant throughout the day, finishing undefeated in his final home competition on Senior Day.

On the women's side, NYU swept the sabre bouts and posted key wins in both the foil and épée weapons. Dondisch, Rosemarie Benciu, and Greta Yuan were dominant throughout the day, delivering strong performances across their respective weapons and leading the Violets in key victories.

Next up, the NYU fencing teams will compete at the NCAA Regional Championships on Sunday, March 8, at Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.
