The
#6-ranked New York University men's volleyball team won its third consecutive match with a three-set win over St. Joseph's University Long Island on Thursday, February 19, in Patchogue, NY.
The Violets comfortably closed out each set by scores of 25-21, 25-17, 25-15.
After falling behind 5-3 in the opening frame, NYU jumped ahead with a 10-2 run and did not relinquish the lead. NYU led by as much as nine in the set, 24-15, but the Golden Eagles added pressure by staving off six straight set points.
Emerson Evans eventually managed to close out the set with a kill to put NYU up 1-0.
Once again trailing to start the second frame, 6-3, the Violets won eight of the next nine rallies to stay ahead for the rest of the set. Later leading 19-15, NYU pulled away with three straight points.
A 25-15 set win put the Violets on the doorstep of a sweep.
NYU dominated wire-to-wire in the third set, jumping out to a 10-3 advantage and leading by as much as 10. The 25-15 set win capped of the Violets' second sweep of the season.
Charlie Clifford had an efficient night with a match-high nine kills on .615 hitting. Additionally,
Veer Agarwal bolstered the attack with seven kills on .636 hitting.
In a big non-conference matchup, NYU will next take on #1 Springfield College on Saturday, February 21, at 3:00pm at the John A. Paulson Center.
