The New York University men's basketball team fell to Washingtion University in St. Louis 84-74 on Friday, February 20, at the John A. Paulson Center in Manhattan.
The Violets had defeated the Bears 77-76 in the teams' first meeting on January 23 in St. Louis, MO.
NYU trailed the University Athletic Association (UAA) contest by as many as 16 points in the first half, but rallied to within 35-27 at halftime.
The run continued into the second half, and NYU took its first lead of the game, 43-42, on
Henry Bickford's three-pointer with 12:44 remaining.
The game remained tight, with
Darren Rubin's two free throws knotting the contest at 59-59 with 6:09 left.
However, WashU connected on three-pointers in each of their next three possessions and maintained the lead the rest of the way.
Rubin led the Violets with 19 points, while
Luke Kolaja and
Carnegie Johnson had 12.
Kolaja was team-high with nine rebounds, and Johnson led with five assists.
The Bears' Connor May led all scorers with 30 points.

The Violets return to action this Sunday, February 22, when they host the University of Chicago back at the Paulson Center. Tip-off is set for 2:00pm and will be preceded by a women's game between the two schools at 12:00pm.
