Men's Basketball Sweeps Season Series Over Rochester

Violets Win Fourth Consecutive Game

In a road game against the University of Rochester, the #22-ranked New York University men's basketball team won its fourth consecutive contest with a 88-80 victory on Friday, February 13.

Win the win, the Violets have swept their season series against the Yellowjackets for the third straight season.

A contest in which NYU never trailed, the Violets got out to a hot start, shooting 7-of-8 from the field inside of the first five minutes and taking a 15-5 lead. Later up 23-15, Carnegie Johnson hit three-pointers on back-to-back possessions to give NYU a 29-17 advantage.

Rochester did manage to cut into the deficit, however, as a quick 9-0 run made it a three-point game. Following a timeout called by the Violets, NYU gained breathing room with a 7-2 run of its own. Despite the Yellowjackets' continued efforts to stay in striking distance, the Violets took a 49-38 lead into halftime.

After NYU stretched out its advantage to 56-43 less than three minutes into the second half, Rochester found its footing with a 9-2 run. By the under-12 minute timeout, the Violets' lead shrunk down to six, 63-57.

Bryan Moussako then provided a spark for NYU with a pair of three-pointers and put the Violets up 71-60.

With NYU ahead 84-75 and under three minutes remaining, the Yellowjackets attempted a late comeback with five straight points to make it a two-possession game. However, Rochester would not score again for the remainder of the night while the Violets iced the game with four made free throws.

Six players for NYU entered double-figures in scoring, including all five starters. Johnson was the game's leader with 21 points on 6-of-11 shooting from the field and 4-of-5 shooting from beyond the arc. Luke Kolaja posted a near double-double with 10 points and a team-best eight rebounds.

NYU is next set to play its final away game of the regular season on Sunday, February 15, against Emory University in Atlanta, GA.
