The New York University men's basketball team was defeated by
#3-ranked Emory University in a University Athletic Association (UAA) contest on Sunday, January 18, at the John A. Paulson Center in Manhattan.
The Violets (10-4, 1-2) and Eagles (13-1, 3-0) were tied 35-35 late in the first half, but Emory went on a 9-0 streak to take a 44-35 lead at halftime.
NYU pulled within two, 54-52, on
Darren Rubin's three-pointer with 14:56 remaining in the game.
Emory followed with a 10-0 run for their first double-digit lead.
Luka Kolaja's dunk brought the Violets within 66-60.
But, the Eagles countered with an 8-2 run and the Violets never got closer than nine points the rest of the way.
Carnegie Johnson scored a game-high 24 points for NYU.
Rubin finished with 12, while Kolaja and
Bryan Moussako each had 11.
Johnson,
Andrew Waldman and
Quinn Clark each had a team-high seven rebounds, while Johnson also recorded a team-best five assists.
The Violets are back on the court this Friday, January 23, when they travel to St. Louis, MO, for a game against #13 Washington University in St. Louis. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30pm central time.
