The Streak Reaches 79

Women's Basketball Continues its Winning Ways

The New York University women's basketball team continued its winning streak, now at 79, as the Violets defeated Case Western Reserve University 93-65 on Friday, January 30, at the John A. Paulson Center in Manhattan. 

The two-time defending NCAA Division III Champion Violets (17-0, 6-0) are now just two short of the all-time record held by another University Athletic Association (UAA) team, Wshington University in St. Louis.

Friday's game was tight throughout much of the first half before top-ranked NYU sprinted to a 43-33 halftime lead. .

NYU erased all doubt in the third quarter, going up by as many as 24 points and taking a 73-53 lead into the fourth.  

The Spartans (8-9, 1-5) got as close as 17 points in the final quarter, but the Violets bumped the margin to a game-high 30, 88-58, on Megan Ohonde's free throw with 3:28 remaining.  
  
Brooke Batchelor finished with a career-high 22 points, making 10-of-14 shots from the field.

Zahra Alexander (15), Aila Kaibara (14) and Caroline Peper (12) also scored in double-digits for the Violets.  

Yasmene Clark contributed a game-high 14 rebounds and a career-high seven assists.

The Violets look to pull within one win of the all-time record when they host Carnegie Mellon University this Sunday back at the Paulson Center. Tip-off for the UAA contest is set for 12 noon and will be followed by a men's game between the two schools at 2pm.
