The New York University women's tennis team finished competition at the ITA Northeast Regional Championships on Sunday, September 28, in Saratoga Springs, NY.
Victoria Wang made the finals, but was unable to take home the crown. She won her first match of the day in the semifinals, beating a member from St. Lawrence University 6-4, 1-6, 6-3, before falling to the eventual winner Ginevra Muratori from Skidmore College 6-4, 6-2.
Wang also played in the doubles semifinals today, but she was not able to progress with her partner
Sophia Yang. They lost to a pair from Rensselaer Polytech Institute 8-6. The other Violets duo of
Emma Kast and
Vera Bondarenko were also unable to make the finals, losing 8-5 to a team from Skidmore.
"It was a strong effort from the team as a whole," Head Coach
Horace Choy said. "Victoria deserves a lot of praise for making two consecutive ITA Regional finals. She played nine sets over three matches and it caught up to her in the final. She will still be going to the ITA Cup and I'm happy for her."
Wang will represent NYU in singles play at the 2025 ITA Cup, which will be held Thursday-Sunday, October 16-19, in Rome, GA.
