The New York University women's tennis team began competition at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Northeast Regional Championships on Friday, September 26.
The three-day competition is being hosted by Skidmore College in Saratogoa Springs, NY.
The Violets saw four singles players and three doubles pairs advance in Friday's session.
On the singles side,
Norah Staunton,
Sophia Yang,
Victoria Wang, and
Siona Vallabhaneni all registered straight-set wins. Both Yang and Wang did not drop a game in their respective matches.
Vera Bondarenko pushed her opponent to three sets but was unable to win the decisive third frame.
Aditi Narayan also competed in the singles draw.
In doubles, NYU was undefeated, with the pairs of Vallabhaneni and Staunton, Yang and Wang, and
Emma Kast and Bondarenko all registering victories.
"It was a long day of tennis. We were at the facility for over 16 hours and I'm proud of how the women kept their focus," Coach
Horace Choy said. "Our doubles showed a lot of resilience and came through in some tight matches. I hope the women can rest and get back at it tomorrow."
The Violets will continue their ITA Northeast Regional Championship campaign during tomorrow's session, which is set to begin at 8am.
