Softball Swept at Home Against Chicago

Violets Drop Both Ends of Doubleheader

The New York University softball team hosted the University of Chicago for a Senior Day doubleheader on Friday, May 2, in Bronx, NY.

The Violets' offense was shutout in both games, as the Maroons posted victories of 4-0 and 8-0.

The last series in University Athletic Association (UAA) play did not start well for the Violets, as UChicago scored in the first inning of the first game. They added two more in the second inning to make it a 3-0 game.

The Maroons added a fourth run in the sixth inning off of a home run to make the score 4-0.

NYU only managed two hits in the opener, both being doubles from Emma Aridi and Olivia de Hesselle

In the circle for the Violets, Marina Egbert got the start, going six innings, striking out two batters. Karleigh Kluever came in for the seventh inning and did not allow a run.

The nightcap started similarly to the first game, as the Maroons jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning off a double and a sacrifice fly. They added two more in the second off of some nifty base running. They continued to stay hot offensively adding a run in the third to make it a 5-0 lead.

UChicago added runs in the fourth, sixth and seventh inning each to close out the scoring 8-0.

Jessie Werthman got the start in the second game for the Violets, but she only lasted two innings. Kluever came in for relief again and finished the remaining five innings. She had a strong outing, striking out five and allowing two earned runs.

The offense tallied six hits in the second game. Leadoff batter Naya Schubel had two singles, while Kluever, de Hesselle, Claire Carson, and Nicole Cicchetti each added one.

The two teams complete the series with a game on Sunday beginning at 10:00am.
