Baseball Splits Series With Brandeis

Violets Take Game One, Drop Game Two

The New York University baseball team split with Brandeis University in a doubleheader on Saturday, April 5, at the Staten Island University Hospital Community Park in Staten Island, NY.

With the split, the Violets and the Judges finished with two wins each in the series.

NYU got off to a quick start in the bottom of the first of game one, scoring four runs on three hits, including a two-run single by Max Oliveira

After the Violets scored again in the bottom of the second, Brandeis got two runs back in the top of the third.

The offense exploded for NYU in the bottom of the fourth, as 13 batters came up to the plate, eight of whom scored. The inning was highlighted by two-run singles from both Oliveira and Dakota Barbet

The Violets knocked in three more runs over the next two innings, capped off by a Nick Argenziano home run to left field.

NYU went on to win the contest 16-3, ending the game in a run rule after seven innings.

Paul Guerne (1-0) earned his first win of the season after tossing five innings and striking out six batters. He did not allow an earned run in his outing. Oliveira batted 2-for-4 with four RBI and a run scored in the game.

The Judges held the Violets scoreless through the first six innings while racing out to an 14-0 lead. Brandeis scored six runs each in the fourth and fifth innings.

After NYU remained scoreless through the seven frame, the game ended in a run rule.

The Violets will remain home for next weekend, as they welcome Washington University in St. Louis for a four-game University Athletic Association (UAA) series, beginning Friday, April 11, in Staten Island, NY. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 3:00pm.
