The New York University softball team was swept by
#15-ranked Case Western Reserve University on Saturday, April 12, in Cleveland, OH.
The Violets' offense was quieted in both games, as the Spartans posted victories of 5-0 and 7-0.
The University Athletic Association (UAA) doubleheader did not begin well for the Violets, as the host Spartans scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning. They added two more in the third and a final one in the fifth to complete the scoring.
NYU did not manage a hit in the opener against Case's Kylie Hosey.
Olivia de Hesselle was the only Violet to reach base, doing so on an error in the second inning.
Olyvia Rutter started for the Violets and suffered the loss, with
Monique Kamrowski adding two innings pf scoreless relief.
The Violets did manage three hits in the second game, but again could not score. The Spartans scored two runs in the third inning, added another in the fifth and secured the victory with four more in the sixth.
NYU's hits were recorded by
Alyssa Quary,
Karleigh Kluever and
Emily Barbire.
Kluever also started un the circle for the Violets, allowing three earned runs over five innings.
The Violets return to action on Friday, April 18, when they host Carnegie Mellon Univeristy at 11:00am at Bahoishy Field in the Bronx, NY.
