Softball Opens Three-Game Series against Carnegie Mellon

Violets Drop First Game, 3-1

The New York University softball team dropped a 3-1 decision against Carnegie Mellon University on Friday, April 18, in Bronx, NY.

In the opener of the three-game series against its University Athletic Association (UAA) opponent, the Tartans scored two runs in the top of the first inning and never looked back after that.

The Violets' offense struggled, managing just four hits.  Tartans' pitcher Gianna Adams was exceptional, going the full seven innings and tying a career high with 12 strikeouts.

Carnegie Mellon went on to score another run in the fourth off of a home run that cleared the left field wall to make it 3-0.

The NYU offense finally got going in the seventh inning, getting hits from Nicole Cicchetti and Alyssa Quary, with Cicchetti eventually scoring on an error. She was also responsible for two of NYU's four hits.

In the circle, Karleigh Kluever got the start and took the loss over three innings of work. She allowed two runs, but neither were earned. Jessie Werthman came in for relief, finishing the game for the Violets, allowing only the one home run.

The two teams complete the series with a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 12:00pm.
