The New York University softball team completed play at the Triangle Collegiate Softball Classic hosted by William Peace University on Sunday, March 9, in Raleigh, NC.
NYU started the day with a 10-2 loss vs host William Peace, but rebounded for a 6-4 victory over Shenandoah University in the second game.
In the opener, the Violets' fell behind 2-0 in the first inning. William Peace added a third run on a sacrifice fly in the second inning to make it 3-0.
In the top of the third, Siena Kiefer hit her first career home run and Emily Barbire followed with a sacrifice fly to help the Violets edge within one run at 3-2.
However, that was all the scoring that the Violets could muster as William Peace scored in each of the remaining innings.
Kiefer also added a single in the game, while Alyssa Quary and Claire Carson also had two hits.
In the second game, the Violets' surged out to a 5-1 lead after the first inning aided by a three-run home run by Emma Aridi.
Shenandoah crept within 5-4 in the top of the second, but the NYU pitchers did not allow another run.
NYU tacked on a sixth run in the sixth inning on a sacrifice fly from Olivia De Hesselle.
Naya Schubel had two hits in the contest, including a double.
Jessie Werthman got the start, striking out two in two innings. Karleigh Kluever earned the win, going four innings and striking out four batters, while Marina Egbert recorded the save.
The Violets will return to action on Friday, March 14, when they face Marymount University for a doubleheader in Arlington, VA. First game is set to begin at 12:00pm.
