The New York University softball team continued its 2025 season with a doubleheader against Marymount University on Friday, March 14, in Arlington, VA.
The Violets swept the Saints, winning the first game 4-3 and the nightcap 11-5.
NYU got off to a quick start, scoring three runs in the first inning of the opener on RBI's from Alyssa Quary, Claire Carson and Emma Aridi.
The Violets added their final run in the fifth inning on a single from Emily Barbire.
The offense produced nine hits, led by Naya Schubel who had a 3-3 performance. Siena Kiefer led the team with three stolen bases, while also scoring a run.
The pitching was equally as successful, as Karleigh Kluever got the win, going 5-2/3 innings and striking out two. Jessie Werthman finished the remaining 1-1/3 innings, grabbing the save.
In the second game, the offense kept on the gas and again scored three runs in the top of the first inning. This time, it was Kluever bringing in two runs on a single.
The Violets added two runs in the top of the fifth inning and four more runs in the top of the sixth inning to increase the lead to 9-2. Aridi hit a two-run home run in the top of the seventh to put the game away for NYU.
The offense was clicking on all fronts during the second game. The team got a total of 13 hits, five walks, and three stolen bases. Kluever led the team with a 3-3 performance.
Olyvia Rutter got the start. After a rocky two-run first inning, she settled down and did not allow another run, striking out two and gaining the win over her five innings. Marina Egbert and Werthman came in for the last two innings to close the game for the Violets.
The Violets return to action tomorrow for the start of The Margie Knight Seagull Tournament hosted by Salisbury University in Salisbury, MD. NYU will play host Salisbury at 1:00pm followed by a game against Massachusetts Institute of Technology at 3:00pm.
