The New York University women's tennis team delivered a dominant performance in their match against RIT at the Stadium Tennis Center in Bronx, NY, securing a decisive 7-0 victory on Saturday, March 8.
The Violets set the tone early by sweeping all three doubles matches.
Isabella Hartman and
Victoria Wang controlled the No. 1 doubles match, securing a 6-0 victory.
Emma Kast and
Jimena Menendez followed at No. 2, winning convincingly 6-1.
At No. 3 doubles,
Hannah Chang and
Norah Staunton completed the sweep with a dominant 6-0 win, giving NYU an early
advantage and the doubles point.
In singles play, Menendez continued her strong performance, winning at No. 1 with a 6-2, 6-0 victory. Hartman was just as dominant at No. 2, securing a 6-0, 6-2 win. Staunton fought hard at No. 3 and came out on top 6-1, 6-2.
NYU continued its success in the rest of the singles matches.
Siona Vallabhaneni earned a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 4, Kast controlled her match at No. 5 with a 6-1, 6-1 victory, and
Kendall Kamerschen completed the sweep at No. 6 with a commanding 6-0, 6-0 win.
"The women played well from the outset and dominated in doubles," said Head Coach Horace Choy. "In singles, we showed great depth across all positions. I'm happy with the way the team competed today, and we will aim to bring the same energy into our next match."
The Violets return to the court on Sunday when they host William Smith College at the Stadium Tennis Club. First serves are set for 1:00pm.
