NYU Baseball Sweeps Doubleheader Against Elmhurst University

Violets win 4-1 in Game 1 and take Game 2 for the sweep

The New York University baseball team swept their doubleheader against Elmhurst University on Saturday, March 22, at IMG Academy in Bradenton, FL. The Violets showcased both strong pitching and explosive offense in the two games, improving their overall record to 10-5.

In game 1 Aidan Pawlak was stellar on the mound for the Violets, earning the win with an impressive 6.2 innings pitched. He allowed just three hits, no earned runs, and struck out six.

In the first inning, Cam Dunn got things started with a solo home run, giving NYU an early 1-0 lead. The Violets extended their lead in the fourth inning with a walk by Nick Argenziano, which scored a run after a series of smart base running plays. Then in the seventh inning, Max Oliveira grounded out to second, driving in another run to increase the NYU lead to 4-0.

Elmhurst got on the board in the eighth inning, but the Violets held their ground to close out the game 4-1.

In Game 2, the Violets dominated Elmhurst with a 12-1 win.

Antonio Turco-Rivas picked up the win, throwing a complete 7-inning game, allowing just two hits, one run, and striking out six.

Offensively, the Violets exploded for eight runs in the fourth inning, starting with a triple by Harrison Blueweiss that brought in a run. Max Oliveira followed with a sacrifice fly, while Nick Argenziano added an RBI single.

The Violets kept up the pressure with further contributions from Nate Pallotta, who hit a grand slam to extend the lead.In the fifth inning, CJ Franchini added a sacrifice fly, and Blueweiss drove in another run, pushing the lead to 9-1. In the sixth, Blueweiss added another RBI double to close out the scoring, and NYU cruised to a 12-1 win.

The Violets will return to the field, Sunday, March 23, to face Colby College at Lake Myrtle Park, Main Field, in Auburndale, FL, at 3:30pm.
