Violets Split a Pair on Sunday

The New York University softball team continued its 2025 season finishing up play at The Margie Knight Seagull Classic hosted by Salisbury University on Sunday, March 16, in Salisbury, MD.

NYU walked off with a 2-1 win against King's College in the nightcap after starting the day with a 7-6 loss against Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI).

Emma Aridi was the hero against King's, as her single scored Monique Kamrowski in the bottom of the seventh to win the game for the Violets.

The Monarch's scored a run in the first inning. NYU equalized in the bottom of the first with a run of their own with a RBI single from Claire Carson.

The game remained scoreless until Aridi's walk-off hit.

Starter Jessie Werthman (4.0 IP) and reliever Marina Egbert  (3.0 IP) combined to to stifle the Monarchs, allowing only three hits and striking out six.

The offense got strong contributions from Alyssa Quary and Naya Schubel with two hits each.

In the first game of the day, WPI scored two runs in the bottom of the first to take a 2-0 lead. NYU grabbed one back in the top of the second off of stolen bases when Carson stole home, as part of a double-steal.

WPI scored two more runs in the bottom of the third to increase their lead 4-1.

The NYU offense exploded in the top of the fourth inning, scoring five runs. It started with a triple from Victoria Negron, followed by singles from both Quary and Olivia De Hesselle. Emily Barbire finished the rally off with a two-RBI single to take the lead 6-4.

That was the last runs NYU scored as WPI scored a run in the bottom of the sixth, to cut the deficit to 6-5. They scored two more in the bottom of the seventh to walk off the game 7-6.

The Violets' offense had a balanced attack, getting 10 total hits from seven different players.

Karleigh Kluever got the start, striking out four and only allowing two earned runs.

NYU returns to action next Saturday, March 22, as they host their first home games of the year in a doubleheader vs Stockton University. The games will be held at Fordham University in Bronx, NY, starting at 1:00pm.
