The New York University softball team continued its 2025 season hosting a doubleheader against Stockton University on Saturday, March 22, in Bronx, NY.
NYU lost 9-1 in the opener and then turned around in the second game winning in walk-off fashion 3-2.
Stockton scored in the first inning from a double steal, and added two more in the second inning off of back-to-back sacrifice bunts to increase their lead 3-0.
The Violets scored their first run of the game in the bottom of the third inning.
Alyssa Quary hit an RBI single, scoring
Siena Kiefer.
The Ospreys added three runs in the fourth inning, all during a two-out rally to push their lead to 6-1. They added three runs in the top of the seventh inning to put the game away 9-1.
The offense was led by
Alyssa Quary and
Victoria Negron, each notching two hits.
Jessie Werthman got the start, and after struggling early, settled down going 3 2/3 innings.
Olyvia Rutter entered in relief, only finishing the inning.
Karleigh Kluever pitched the next two, not allowing a run or base runner.
Marina Egbert finished the game for the Violets.
In the second game, NYU had the bases loaded to start the game, but could not capitalize, stranding all three runners.
Kluever kept the Ospreys quiet until the third inning, when they scored two runs off a double. The Violets battled back on
Emily Barbire's single to right field, scoring
Nicole Cicchetti.
Both offenses remained quiet until the seventh inning, when
Alyssa Quary's two-RBI single scored
Siena Kiefer and Cicchetti.
The offense had a strong day, receiving multi-hit games from Kiefer and Cicchetti.
NYU returns to action tomorrow, Sunday, March 23, as they host a doubleheader vs St. Joseph's University Brooklyn . The games will be held at Fordham University in Bronx, NY, starting at 1:00pm.
