NYU Softball Loses First Two Games at Margie Knight Seagull Tournament

Violets Fall to Host Salisbury and MIT

The New York University softball team continued its 2025 season at the Margie Knight Seagull Classic hosted by Salisbury University on Saturday, March 15 in Salisbury, MD.

NYU fell to host Salisbury 9-5 in the opener and then were defeated by Massachustets Institute of Technology (MIT) 5-4 in eight innings.

In the opener, Salisbury scored a run in the first inning and added two more in the top of the second.

NYU edged closer with two runs in the bottom of the second on an RBI single from Olivia De Hesselle and a sacrifice fly from Naya Schubel to cut the deficit to 3-2.

The Seagulls added four more runs in the top of the fourth to increase their lead 7-2.

The Violets countered back with two runs in the bottom of the same inning, scoring off of a wild pitch and a single from Nicole Cicchetti

NYU scored its final run in the bottom of the fifth inning on Emily Barbire's single, but that was all the offense mustered as Salisbury scored two more runs in the top of the seventh inning to close the game.

The Violets' offense managed 12 hits in the game, led by Claire Carson and De Hesselle with three hits each.

In the second game, NYU started out strong with a double from Carson that scored a run. The Violets added to their lead in the fourth inning with two runs off nifty base running to make the score 3-0. MIT scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to keep the game close 3-2.

Siena Kiefer scored on a wild pitch in the sixth inning to make the score 4-2, but that was it for the Violets, as MIT scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings. They scored again in the bottom of the eight inning to win the game 5-4.

For the offense, both Kiefer and Schubel led the team with two hits. Karleigh Kluever chipped in as well with two walks.

NYU returns to action tomorrow as they play Worcester Polytechnic Institute at 11:00am and King's College (PA) at 3:00pm.
