Violets Drop First Dual Match of Season

The New York University women's tennis team came up short in a 5-2 match-up to Swarthmore College on Saturday, March 1, in Swarthmore, PA. The loss marks NYU's first of the season, bringing their record to 2-1.

Doubles play was tightly contested, with NYU securing one of the three matches. Siona Vallabhaneni and Jimena Menendez battled to a 6-4 victory at No. 2 doubles, but the Violets fell at No. 1 and No. 3, conceding the doubles point.

In singles, Menendez continued her strong play, earning a 6-4, 6-3 victory at No. 1. Victoria Wang also put NYU on the board with a dominant 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 3.

Norah Staunton delivered a strong first set at No. 5, but ultimately fell in three sets, 3-6, 6-0, 7-5. Isabella Hartman also pushed her match to a deciding set at No. 2 before narrowly falling 7-6(6), 4-6, 7-5.

Despite the loss, the Violets showed resilience in multiple three-set battles. They will look to bounce back in their next match against RIT on Saturday, March 8, at the Stadium Tennis Center in the Bronx, NY, with play set to begin at 1:00pm.
